Description: Waipio Valley, a few miles north of Honokaa, is broad and deep, and was the center of the Big Island's cultural and political life before the European arrivals. Thousands of farmers drained garden terraces and irrigated taro patches. Its twin waterfalls, called Hiilawe, feed a broad river that leads to a beautiful black alluvial beach.
